About the Masterclass
Teleportation sounds like science fiction, but in quantum physics it is a real procedure, and it is one of the building blocks of quantum communication. This talk is a gentle introduction to the idea. We start with a simple puzzle about coins, which shows how two people who share a matched pair can pass information between them without ever looking at it. From there we meet the qubit, the basic unit of memory in a quantum computer, and see why looking at a quantum state changes it. That single fact is what makes moving quantum information so tricky. We then look at entanglement, where two particles behave as one no matter how far apart they are, and use it to sketch how a quantum state can be handed from one person to another. Along the way we'll see why teleportation still does not let us send anything faster than light. No physics background is needed.
